Charleston the 2nd. of Novr. 1783. Dear Sir Colonel de Miranda an Officer in the Spanish Service will have the Honor to present this to you. The accidental Mention of his having taken the Character of General Wolfe as his Guide in the Military Career induced me to wish him the Advantage of being acquainted with you, Sir, as one of that Generáis most intímate Friends and a sharer with him in the dangers and Glories of an Expedition which though Succesfully proved fatal to the brave Wolfe. I am convinced at the same time that you will not reproach me for introducing this Gallant Officer and accurate observer of Men and Manners to your acquaintance and I flatter rayself that you will think with me, that though his plan of Travels is extensive his abilities are equal to it. It is only from the Public papers, that I saw with sorrow your sufferings from a painfull disorder in your eyes; I have not seen it mentioned lately and therefore flatter myself that you are recover'd; but as I cannot but be anxious for you, I wish to sec it confirmed. Charleston, 2 de noviembre de 1783 Estimado señor: El coronel Miranda, oficial en el ejército español, tendrá el honor de entregarle la presente. Accidentalmente mencionó que había escogido como guía en su carrera militar al personaje del general Wolfe 3, esto me indujo a pensar que sería provechoso para él conocer a V., señor, uno de los más íntimos amigos de ese general y que compartió con él los peligros y las glorias de una expedición que, aunque exitosa, fue fatal para el valeroso Wolfe. Estoy convencido a la vez que V. no me reprochará el presentarle a este galante oficial, observador agudo de los hombres y de sus costumbres, y me halago de qué pensará conmigo que su plan de viaje es muy amplio y sus habilidades no lo son menos. Fue solamente al leer el periódico que me enteré con tristeza que V. sufría una dolorosa enfermedad en sus ojos; últimamente no he visto nada mencionado al respecto y por lo tanto pienso que V. se ha recuperado, sin embargo no dejo de preocuparme y quisiera tener la confirmación de su curación.
