And departed from Amsterdam on the 16th. in the morning — breakfasted at Muyden, where there are great sluices conecting the waters of the Rhine with the Zuydersea—visited the castle of Muyden —not in good order—from the top is a most extensive prospect of the country—HarlemUtretch— Sadam, &ca. &ca.—immense herds of castle with which the country particularly abounds—they are large and fine— their horses are large and mostly black or pyed—their cattle are generally spotted and stripped—from thence we passed to Naardon, which is the great key of the country, from whence the whole may be inundated and ruined in a few hours—its fortifications are in high order—and extremely elegant—a small garrison in it at present—from this, after passing large uncultivated plains, we arrived at Armsfort near which are large fields of tobacco—it is a neat town

Partimos de Ámsterdam el día 16 por la mañana; desayunamos en Muyden, donde hay grandes esclusas conectando las aguas del Rin con el Zuyderzee. Visitamos el castillo de Muyden —anteriormente usado como prisión, examinamos los apartamentos asignados a los prisioneros, pero no intentaremos describirlos— no está en buen estado. Desde arriba se tiene una extensa vista de la región: Harlem, Utrecht, Zaandam, etc., etc. Inmensos rebaños de ganado grande y hermoso muy abundante en este país; sus caballos son grandes y en mayoría negros o manchados; su ganado es generalmente moteado y rayado. De allí pasamos a Naarden, que es la gran llave del país, desde donde todo puede ser inundado y arruinado en pocas horas. Sus fortificaciones están en buena condición y son sumamente elegantes; de momento hay en ellas una pequeña guarnición. De aquí, después de haber atravesado grandes llanuras sin cultivar, llegamos a Amersfoort cerca del cual hay vastos campos de tabaco; es una ciudad limpia,
