Desayunamos en Brandeburgo, la capital del Electorado, situada sobre tres islas en el centro del río Havel. La región entre éste y el Elba es muy pobre y arenosa, campo que produce pinos, no hay nada notable en este lugar. Visitamos la catedral. Escuchamos el viejo y maravilloso cuento de superstición e ignorancia y después de haber almorzado, salimos hacia Potsdam, residencia favorita del Rey, donde llegamos a las nueve tras un fastidioso viaje. Al caer la noche, deseamos encender las lámparas de nuestro carruaje, pero el postillón no lo consintió, lo que despertó nuestras aprensiones, pues teníamos que atravesar un bosque y el camino era malo. Nos pusimos sobre aviso y empuñamos las pistolas; alrededor, de las ocho, viendo a tres hombres de pie, cerca de la carretera, concluímos que estaríamos obligados a enfrentar una pequeña escaramuza, pero pasamos sin ser molestados. Nos alojamos en el hotel «Príncipe Henry».

Potsdam es notable por la elegancia exterior de las casas. Este lugar sirve de retiro al Rey, lo denomina su residencia campestre y no admite que ninguno de sus ministros lo acompañe aquí, siendo Berlín
